شاخص کیفیت هوا (AQI) یک شاخص کلیدی جهت آگاهی از کیفیت هوا، نحوه اثر آلودگی هوا بر سلامت و روش های محافظتی در برابر آلودگی هوا می باشد. به طور کلی AQI شاخصی جهت گزارش روزانه کیفیت هوا می باشد. این شاخص مردم را از کیفیت هوا (پاک بودن یا آلوده بودن آن) آگاه میسازد و اثرات سلامتی مرتبط با آن را ارائه می‌کند. این شاخص برای پنج آلاینده ی معیار هوا یعنی ذرات معلق، دی اکسیدنیتروژن، ازن سطح زمین، منوکسیدکربن و دی اکسیدگوگرد محاسبه می‌شود. به طور کلی هدف از تهیه این نرم افزار شناخت، نحوه ی محاسبه، تعیین و اعلام مقدار شاخص کیفیت هوا می باشد که توسط خانم نیلوفر برهانی یزدی دانشجوی دکتری بهداشت محیط، دانشکده بهداشت، علوم پزشکی تهران تحت راهنمایی دکتر مهدی هادی طراحی و توسعه داده شده است.

In major urban centers, air quality monitoring systems play a pivotal role in translating air quality-related data into an Air Quality Index (AQI) and disseminating pertinent information to the populace. Consequently, the AQI serves as a critical instrument for assessing air quality, understanding the health implications of air pollution, and devising protective measures against it.

Broadly, the AQI serves as a metric for daily air quality reporting, offering insights into the purity or pollution levels of the air and elucidating the associated health ramifications. Specifically, the AQI focuses on elucidating the health effects stemming from exposure to polluted or unhealthy air. This index is computed for five standard air pollutants: suspended particles, nitrogen dioxide, ground-level ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide. This application been developed by Nilofar Borhani yazdi, Ph.D student undder supervision of Dr. Mahdi hadi.
